The Civilian Guide

Civilian roleplay is where every London Thames story starts. This guide explains how civilian life works, what each civilian level earns you, and how to climb the ladder.

The rules always apply. Nothing in this guide overrides the server rules — a civilian level is permission to carry something, never permission to break RP standards with it.

1.How civilian life works

When your whitelist application is accepted you join the city as a Verified Civilian. Everything else — police, ambulance, fire brigade — is built on top of civilian life, and the way you conduct yourself as a civilian is what earns you more.

Progression through the civilian levels is vouched by staff and command. There is no grind timer and no points system: staff promote civilians whose roleplay shows they can handle the next step. Play well, take losses gracefully, build believable stories, and the levels come to you.

If you believe you're ready for the next level, you can ask — open a ticket in the Discord and staff will look at your recent roleplay. Being a good sport when the answer is "not yet" is, itself, evidence you're nearly there.

2.The civilian levels

2.1Verified Civilian — your starting point

Every accepted applicant starts here. As a Verified Civilian you can build your character, work, socialise, and get involved in the life of the city.

  • Force: fists only. No weapons of any kind.
  • Scenarios: minor calls for the emergency services — disputes, disturbances, petty theft, road incidents.
  • Purpose: show us who your character is. This level is about roleplay quality, not what you're carrying.

2.2Civilian Level 1 — blunt objects

The first vouched promotion. Level 1 civilians may use blunt objects — bats, crowbars, and similar — in scenarios with proper build-up and motivation.

What staff look for before vouching: clean conduct as a Verified Civilian, escalation that makes sense in character, and no rule strikes.

2.3Civilian Level 2 — knives

Level 2 permits bladed weapons. Knife scenarios raise the stakes for everyone involved, so this level is about restraint: a knife in your pocket is character texture, a knife in every scene is a strike.

What staff look for: Level 1 conduct, proportionate use of blunt weapons, and scenes where the other side clearly had a fair chance to respond.

2.4Civilian Level 3 — pistols, with approved calls

Level 3 permits carrying a pistol — and comes with a hard procedural rule:

Every firearm scenario must be approved by staff in the Discord before it starts. Ask in the staff channel, wait for the yes, then run the scene. An unapproved firearm call is a rule breach regardless of how good the RP was.

What staff look for: a strong Level 2 record, understanding of rule 5 (criminal activity), and the patience to plan scenes rather than improvise violence.

2.5Civilian Level 4 — helicopter use

The top of the ladder. Level 4 civilians may use helicopters — for business, story arcs, and the kind of scenes that make the whole city stop and look up.

What staff look for: an established character with history in the city, spotless conduct at Level 3, and roleplay that other players actively enjoy being part of.

2.6Losing a level

Levels are earned, and they can be un-earned. Misusing what a level grants you — unapproved firearm calls, weapon use without build-up, chaos for its own sake — will see the level removed, and serious breaches fall under the server rules as normal.

No silly prices, no gatekeeping, no "you need to be best mates with staff first" nonsense. Civilian businesses are supported at no cost, because civilians should have more to do than drive around aimlessly until the police get bored. If it's possible without hurting server performance, you've got it.

Civilian stories in London Thames run through the Nights MDT — build a character with a record, a reputation, and a paper trail the emergency services can actually find. A civilian with history makes every traffic stop, every callout, and every arrest richer for both sides.

If you're new, start small: a job, a routine, a local. The levels above aren't a shopping list — they're the city noticing you.
